How reviews work

Every review on Wed Worthy comes from a couple who booked the vendor, and our team reads it first.

Who can write a review

Only a couple who contacted a vendor through Wed Worthy and then marked them as booked can review them, and only after the event date has passed. Each review is tied to one of the couple's own event dates, which is shown on the review.

How we check reviews

  • Our team reads every review before it is published, including reviews the couple edits later.
  • If we need to, we ask the couple for proof of booking, such as an invoice, contract or receipt. Only our team sees that proof, and we delete it 90 days after approving the review.
  • Review photos are re-saved by us, which removes location data and other hidden details.
  • If we can't publish a review, we email the couple the reason.

How ratings are shown

  • A rating is the average of a vendor's published reviews, to one decimal place, always shown with the number of reviews it comes from.
  • We don't show an average until a vendor has at least 3 reviews. Until then the profile says “Too few reviews to rate yet” and shows the count.
  • Critical reviews stay visible and look the same as positive ones.

What vendors can do

Vendors can post one public reply to each review. The reply appears under the review, labelled as theirs. Vendors can also report a review they believe breaks our review guidelines, and we look into every report.

Vendors can't pay to change, hide or reorder reviews.

How vendors are vetted

Before a vendor is listed, our team checks by hand that:

  • the business is active and real, with a working website or social accounts and real work shown;
  • at least 2 of their 3 references responded positively;
  • there are no serious unresolved complaints about them online;
  • their portfolio meets our quality bar.

What people say elsewhere

Some profiles include a short summary of public online mentions, with the number of mentions it is based on. It is labelled as not verified by us, it sits apart from the reviews, and it is never part of the Wed Worthy rating.

Community reviews from Facebook

Some pages show short summaries of reviews that members of a public BC wedding group on Facebook posted about vendors they hired. They are not Wed Worthy reviews and we have not verified them. Each one is labelled as coming from that group and links to the original post.

  • We only use firsthand, specific reviews of businesses, and one per vendor.
  • We skip vendors that the group's members have also criticised, and we never write anything negative about a business.
  • We put each review in our own words, in one or two sentences. We leave out names of people, exact dates and prices, and we don't add praise the poster didn't give.
  • They never count toward a Wed Worthy rating, and they never appear beside one as if they did.

Where our numbers come from

  • The counts of vendors and reviews we show are live counts from our database, read each time the page loads. They include only listed vendors and published reviews.
  • The community count is the number of summaries we have published, currently 32. It is the length of our own list, not a measure of the group.
  • Ratings are the average of published reviews, as described above, and never include community reviews.
  • We show no estimates, projections or “couples served” figures. If we have nothing real to count, we show nothing.
